Green Building Power

This is a story about making my house green.  I haven't started yet.  We'll all do it together.  I certainly need your help.

We're starting with a 1957 ranch, with a 1/2 story running lengthwise underneath.  The house sits the long way  across a downslope hill in Mill Valley, CA, with the full lengths of the back of the upper and lower floors facing south-southeast.

There is nothing in the construction that is energy efficient except some large double-glazed, low-e windows and doors that we put in about 5 years ago.  They replaced large single-pane metal framed windows, and a single swinging door out onto the back deck.

When we originally moved in, in 2002, I didn't think much about the building's efficiency.  I could see that most of its systems needed work.  But I also saw that the layout was very functional, and that there was good access to a lot of the home's systems through 2 large crawl spaces.

I've worked in the crawl spaces.  And I've even been into the walls a bit.  But now it's time to energize.
